It's Santa! | Current Projects | Retirement from WSU

Last May, I retired from Washington State University after serving for 40 years as a faculty member in the School of Music, but am as busy as ever. I've written a new holiday song, It's Santa!, which was recorded by my YAZZ Band in two versions: with vocalist Horace Alexander Young, and with the JECCA Vocal Jazz Ensemble, both of which have been distributed to streaming and download sites including Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, YouTube and more. You may listen and download here. Last July, my Celebration Overture, written to celebrate the 10th anniversary of McCall SummerFest in Idaho, was premiered by the SummerFest Orchestra. Listen here. I also composed On the Air for symphony orchestra to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Northwest Public Broadcasting and am in the process finishing production on a recording of the piece for broadcast on NWPB. I completed commissions for Caleb Chapman's Crescent Super Band and for the Kingston High School Jazz Band, directed by WSU alum, Tom Guenther. I am completing a commission for flugelhorn artist Dmitri Matheny, an big band arrangement of the title track from his latest CD Cascadia. Last May, Last spring, I appeared as a guest artist in Sioux Center, Iowa, at the Peak's Jazz Festival in Utah, with the Coeur d' Alene Academy Jazz Band and my YAZZ Band presented concerts at at Spokane Falls Community College and at the Lynden Music Festival near Bellingham, Washington.
